Alex Scammon
CTO
Alex Scammon, founder and CTO of ISC, has a passion for building software engineering teams to solve challenging problems at scale. His extensive leadership experience allows him to empower each team member to contribute their unique talents.
His day-to-day work is focused on leading a large team of open-source software engineers for G-Research. This team actively contributes to public, open-source data science and machine learning tools as well as the machine learning operations (MLOps), high-performance computing (HPC), and the infrastructure needed to support those tools at scale. Examples include: Aerospike, Apache Spark, Apache Storm, Arrow, Dgraph, Helm, Hadoop, Horovod, ILGPU, lightgbm, OpenStack, Parquet, Ray, TensorFlow, and XGBoost.
In addition, Alex takes a leading role in shaping the overall strategic direction at Insight Softmax Consulting. To this end, he leads ISC’s HPC and open-source software departments. As part of his leading role in the broader open-source infrastructure ecosystem, Alex is chair of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation's Batch Working Group where he leads discussion around cloud-native batch scheduling. This conversation spans the depths of Kubernetes to more traditional batch schedulers like Slurm, PBS, and LSF.
Prior to Insight Softmax, Alex served as Director of Software Development at Rackspace for over 5 years. Prior to Rackspace, Alex was a principal engineer at Yahoo!, where he championed the company’s transition from QA-driven engineering processes to Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment-based processes.
Alex holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and lives in Oakland, California.
